A sinus cleaning din
that flips you upside down, shakes the keys from your pockets and then
drops you headfirst to the astroturf. The top of the pre-post rock Chicago
sound - often unfairly compared to the Jesus Lizard, Big Black, etc, this
sounds far more stoned and spooky. "Fresh Breath" are their swan songs
- before Al and Mark got to U.S. MAPLE. What were you doing while Mark
was playing guitar?
SONGS:
I Prefer "Nitwit"
Fresh Breath
Tomato Kisser
Kaput
Really Pointy
LINE UP:
Al Johnson: vocals
Mark Shippy: guitar
Luke Frampton: bass
Todd Lamparelli: drums
GUESTS:
John Forbes: vocals
Produced by Steve
Albini
Cover art by Kurt Kiesel and Mark Shippy
FUN FACT(S):
Though both are recorded by Steve Albini, this version of "Kaput"
differs from the one found on the "Fresh Breath" EP. The now
out of print 10" came with a "big hole" requiring one
of those pesky 7" adapters! The cover art was painted by Kurt Kiesel,
who would later come to fame as the premiere actor in the Oops(!) indoors
festivals, playing beloved characters such as Dirty Dog and Straight-Edge
Santa. At the very first Oops, Shorty played their final show. Al and
Mark would soon return to SKiN GRAFT with their new band, U.S. Maple.
