ARAB ON RADAR
"The Yahweh or the Highway Sessions"
aluminum cover 7" single

Hi Everybody,

ARAB ON RADAR "The Yahweh of the Highways Sessions" 7" single / CD / Ultimate Edition is shipping now!

To order, visit the
SKiN GRAFT Records SHOP

Here is the official solicitation:

Arab on Radar's first show was in the cafeteria on the Rhode Island College campus. Not long after, when the band was opening for Marilyn Manson at a Providence club called Babyhead, they were chased out of the club by angry audience members.” - Wikipedia

Arab On Radar were torchbearers of a new breed of deconstructionists, mixing mind-melting abrasiveness with punk’s calculated aggression: avant-rock made by cerebral high-art-cumpunk- lovin’ dudes who probably kept their Black Flag records stashed near their Stockhausen. Somewhere along the way, people got amazed and confused.” - CMJ

During the sessions that would become their final album “Yahweh or the Highway”, Arab On Radar recorded updated versions of two tracks that had originally appeared on a split 7” EP with The Locust a year earlier. Locked away on a roll of analog tape since 2001, the band and SKiN GRAFT Records are making these unheard recordings available in an edition of 550 7” vinyl singles. Produced by Weasel Walter in 2001 at Sound Station Seven, each single comes with a hand fabricated aluminum jacket, custom polished and treated by the band’s own Mr. Clinical Depression and then screen-printed with new artwork by Mat Brinkman and Neil Burke. No two sleeves will be alike. The single comes complete with a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity and a heavy, double-sided tri-fold sleeve featuring band photos and lyrics.

ARAB ON RADAR
"The Yahweh or the Highway Sessions"
ONE-SHEET

“Like U.S. Maple's runty little cousin, Arab On Radar's avant-gargling wasn't some dry exercise in "playing the spaces between notes." They clogged those spaces, distended them, poked them inside out. I've seen plenty of discordant bands and enjoyed lots of annoying records over the years - but there will always be a special place in my heart (and a soft spot in my brain) reserved for this one-two cockpunch of transcendental retardation.” - A.V. Club

The ARAB ON RADAR "The Yahweh of the Highways Sessions" 7“ tracks are also being released on CD in two editions, each with unique cover art. Available exclusively through the SKiN GRAFT Shop is a specially priced Ultimate Edition bundle, which brings together the aluminum sleeved 7" single with your choice of CD packaging.

You can hear the B-Side "Piggin' in the Pumpkin Patch" at our newly launched Soundcloud page and a couple of early impressions have come in from Stereogum and Consequense of Sound...

Stereogum: B-Side Premiere
Rock music’s wildest mutants traditionally have short lifespans, so it’s a minor miracle that Providence, RI’s Arab On Radar survived for eight years. Though the band got going in 1994, their influences mostly date to the ill-defined but influential no-wave scene of late-’70s New York: the likes of the Contortions, DNA, and the early Lydia Lunch outfit Teenage Jesus & The Jerks.

Alongside a small handful of peers like the Flying Luttenbachers and U.S. Maple, Arab On Radar dragged no-wave’s guitar-choking skronk and brainy nihilism into the post-Soviet era, while retaining its penchant for absurdist provocation. (Read AOR frontman Eric Paul’s hilarious account of the band’s unlikely opening slot at a Marilyn Manson gig in 1995 to get a sense of their penchant for causing trouble.) After generating a surprisingly extensive discography, including the classic 2001 LP Yahweh Or The Highway, Arab On Radar called it quits in 2002; an aborted 2010 reunion aside, the group has kept quiet ever since, though three members of the band still work together in fine form as Doomsday Student.

Surprisingly, the corpse of Arab On Radar still has one last fetid belch left in it, in the form of a pair of B-sides from the Yahweh Or The Highway sessions. Skin Graft Records, the Chicago noise rock bellwether that issued Yahweh, is releasing these two tunes as a single. We’re premiering one of those two tracks, “Piggin’ In The Pumpkin Patch,” here today. Driven by a nervous 7-beat drum ostinato and chickenscratch guitars that don’t even pretend like they’re trying to carry a melody, it’s a brief trainwreck of a tune that captures much of Arab On Radar’s paradoxical appeal. It’ll probably sound like a malfunctioning appliance to most, but lucky ears will detect the sardonic but unmistakeable musicality that lies beneath the scabby surface. Listen.

STEREOGUM

Consequence of Sound
Top 10 Songs of the Week

It’s a real pleasure to be able to write Arab on Radar’s name into a Top Songs of the Week post, especially considering its not 1999. The Providence no wave outfit produced noise so trainwreck-compelling that they became a touchstone for fellow weirdos around the world, getting big enough that they could even open for Marilyn Manson. (The late ’90s were a strange time, man.) But they were done by 2002, so there’s no way I’d get to write about them here - but think again!

Chicago’s Skin Graft Records unearthed a pair of unreleased Arab on Radar B-sides, including the scraggly “Piggin’ In the Pumpkin Patch”, driven by Craig Kureck’s “nailgun through aluminum siding” snare drum and Eric Paul’s shrieking. The track and its compatriot will be available August 19th via Skin Graft.

ITEM! The new CELLULAR CHAOS LP/CD is out now and our pals at Tiny Mix Tapes have rolled out the red carpet for the music video premiere of the album's title track, "Diamond Teeth Clenched". You can read the full write up and check out the Preston Spurlock directed video at the TMT website right HERE.

CELLULAR CHAOS "Diamond Teeth Clenched"
Directed by Preston Spurlock
featuring Admiral Grey, Shayna Dulberger and Weasel Walter

"Diamond Teeth Clenched, the second full-length album from New York quintet Cellular Chaos, came out last month on old Midwest buddy cop label SKiN GRAFT. Together, singer Admiral Grey, bassist Shayna Dulberger, and Weasel Weasel have made an album as organically batshit as its 2013 self-titled predecessor. These dozen songs are encased in raw mayhem, stitched together through glam and high-end fuck-it noise rock, radical in their power and their succinctness.

The video for the title track, directed by Preston Spurlock, isn’t much different. Like a found collection of poorly-shot, grainy 1992 bootleg Pay-Per-View program torn up and shoved into a VCR, the video for “Diamond Teeth Clenched,” like the song, is falling into itself from every angle. Cellular Chaos are tearing the walls down and rolling around in the dust. And they’re daring you to stop them."

TINY MIX TAPES

LLGITEM! LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS have just returned from their jaunt down south and the word is that the tour was fantastic! Now the band is prepping for their record release show in sweet home Chicago tonight!

From the Chicago Reader preview by Monica Kendrick:
"Jacobsen told me some of tonight’s special treats might include a Celtic Frost cover in four-part harmony—with members of Toupee and Cheer-Accident pitching in—and a possible assist from opener and longtime supporter Bobby Conn."

You can read the full write up HERE and if you have yet to get your mitts on a copy of your very own, you can order LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS "Glistening VIvid Splash right over HERE at the SKiN GRAFT Paypal Shop.

That's all for today. Thanks for visiting!

LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS "Corpse Thighs Dancing"

Directed by Chris Hefner & Gregory Jacobsen
Director of Photography: Andrew J. Morgan
Editing, Masks and Art Direction: Gregory Jacobsen

Hi Everybody,

This is Mark writing and we've got a lot to share today! The new CELLULAR CHAOS album landed beside the brexit outcome two weeks ago - and if you haven't already done so, you should head directly to the previous update to read all about it. This time around, we've got a big announcement about the last two bits of unheard ARAB ON RADAR, a preview of some new art for this Fall's DAZZLING KILLMEN "Face Of Collapse" vinyl re-issue - and the skinny on the new album from Chicago's LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS - which is out - as of right now!

Before we get into the nitty gritty, LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS have put together a jitter-inducing video for the song "Corpse Thighs Dancing" and you can check it out up top. Also - The Chicago Reader's Philip Montoro has written up an extensive history of the band - and the windy city weekly is currently streaming "Glistening Vivid Splash" in its entirety so you can try before you buy. Check it out HERE.

And - LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS will be touring soon, check out the the FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE for all of the dates!

Okay - On with the show!
First up,
LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS"Glistening Vivid Splash"( ! ):

llg

"The music of the Chicago avant-rock oddballs Lovely Little Girls is inspired by the paintings and drawings of artist/vocalist Gregory Jacobsen. It's the sort of artwork that can inspire lyrics like "Inflammation of the harelip," candy-colored grotesques that seem like carnival art intended to scare children with the threat of STDs. These characters are depicted in the band's Frith/Residents-inspired anarchic outbursts, sideshow skronk in [Henry Darger] Vivian Girls colors. The songs come mostly from the pen of Cheer-Accident bassist Alex Perkolup, who translates Jacobsen's deformed portraiture into an equally deranged sonic palette, a no-wave juggling act by turns horrifying and horrified." - Shaun Brady, Philadelphia City Paper

Led by visual artist/vocalist Gregory Jacobsen and bassist Alex Perkolup, Lovely Little Girls is a nine-piece art-prog band that features the cream of the crop of Chicago's avant-rock scene. “Glistening Vivid Splash”, the band’s second full length release on SKiN GRAFT Records propels the ensemble’s darkly humorous vision of absurd sexuality, abject failure, and unceremonious death to new heights by utilizing more space, and employing a strange sense of harmony that will strike a chord with fans of Magma, Cardiacs and The Residents. Produced by Greg Norman and mastered by Todd Rittmann (Dead Rider, U.S. Maple), the music of Lovely Little Girls is permeated by an ominous urgency - ripening and decaying before the ears.

llg

"Jacobsen’s band, Lovely Little Girls, is a total package: challenging, dissonant, ever-changing experimental rock, conceptually linked songs, and ambitious themed stage productions that often involve makeup, prosthetics, partial nudity, and large casts of players.. His longtime collaborator, bassist Alex Perkolup, writes most of the songs; Jacobsen animates their lyrics with his abject, frenzied singing and grotesque, even violent stage presence."- Monica Kendrick, Chicago Reader

Our next up and coming release is something that has been in the works for quite some time!

During the sessions that would become their final album - “Yahweh or the Highway”, Arab On Radar recorded updated versions of two songs that had originally appeared on a split EP with The Locust a year earlier. These versions of "Three Meals Away From A Crack Whore" and "Piggin’ In The Pumpkin Patch" have been locked away on a roll of analog tape since 2001, and they've long been favorites of mine. I'm pleased to announce that we're going to make these unheard recordings available in an edition of (550) 7” vinyl singles.

Produced by Weasel Walter (Cellular Chaos) in 2001 at Sound Station Seven, - and mastered 15 years later for this release - every single will come with a hand-fabricated aluminum cover. Each piece of .025 gauge aluminum has been trimmed to size by Ralph Fischer, who took the lead on the metal sleeved edition of U.S. Maple's "Long Hair In Three Stages". The metal covers were then shipped to Arab On Radar's own Mr. Clinical Depression (aka Jeff Schneider of Made In Mexico), who custom surface treated and polished each one. From there, Mat Brinkman and Neil Burke (who collaborated on the cover art of Arab On Radar's "Yahweh or The Highway") drew up some new artwork and Neil is now screen-printing this two color design on each cover.

No two sleeves will be alike.

We're also printing a very short run of covers on copper rather than aluminum. The increased demand for copper from China and India, along with widespread global copper mine depletion, has pushed the price of copper way up, so these copper-covered copies will be very limited.

Both the aluminum and copper covered singles come complete with a two-sided, hand-numbered certificate of authenticity and a full-color double-sided tri-fold sleeve featuring vintage band photos taken at Chicago's Fireside Bowl by Marci Rogal.

The previously unreleased tracks will also be available on CD in two editions, each with unique cover art - and both will include the entire "Yahweh Or The Highway" album as bonus tracks.

The vinyl has already been pressed and is in-house. Because Neil is silk-screening the artwork on metal, the standard screen-printing inks used on T-Shirts and standard LP jackets are not compatible, making the entire process considerably more difficult. Neil has already started printing the covers at his Monoroid Studio and we expect these to ship in late August. We are taking pre-orders now for the aluminum sleeved seven-inch, the copper sleeved variant, the two CD editions and a SKiN GRAFT shop exclusive Ultimate Edition which brings together an aluminum sleeved 7" with the CD cover of your choice.
