Teaching Board (Excerpt)
2010 and Counting... ( ! )
This is Mark scooting over from the News Desk's shotgun seat to (temporarily) take the reigns from Jazzy Joe. Topping the news this time: GAY BEAST's first ever European Tour has just gotten underway and the band have a short run of their upcoming Skin Graft single “Charm” b/w "We Keep Our Victims Ready" for sale to concert attendees. The single has been rushed into production for an early debut on the tour and is not slated to be available in record stores til later this year. For those who can't make it to one of the Euro dates, we do have a limited quantity available for ordering now.
ITEM!: If you checked the Skin Graft online shop over the last few days, you may have seen that we were offering (2) different GAY BEAST T-shirt designs that have now disappeared from the shop. These were available on a made to order basis before the band left for their European tour, so for the time being we've removed the shirts from the shop and stopped taking orders. Thanks to all who ordered - your shirts are shipping this week!
Minneapolis' City Pages just published an interview with GAY BEAST conducted on the eve of the European departure. It's a good read and you'll find it here:
As promised, we do have GAY BEAST's upcoming Skin Graft single “Charm” b/w "We Keep Our Victims Ready" tour 7” in-stock now in advance of of the general release date.
Here's something our press magnate Charlie Nite put together on the release:
“Charm” and “We Keep Our Victims Ready”. Gay Beast's first new recordings since the release of their acclaimed “Second Wave” album. Hand silk-screened covers. Limited quantities. Skin Graft number 98. General Release: April 2010 / Limited quantities now.
"Thundering out of the basements of Minneapolis, Gay Beast's latest record, 'Second Wave,' is full of erratic shifts in time signature, pleading yelps over razor-sharp eight-bit keyboards, and pounding tribal percussion. Although not for the faint of heart, this frenetic trio’s music is miraculously danceable—the perfect soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic discotheque."
- The New Yorker
"This is like James Chance and Franz Ferdinand holding hands."
- KUCI 88.9 FM
"Gay Beast are one of the few bands seriously challenging the form of modern rock music – that doesn't’t make them a difficult listen though. Hard-boiled and jittering all over the place, yes, very busy, rushing off in ten directions at once, never abrasive though."
- Organ Magazine
"I'm totally all gay over this band and I'm not shy about expressing it."
- Gumshoe Grove
"As a listening experience, Second Wave is like hearing the children of outré music genres play in the sandbox of art. All they want you to do is the join them—and, based on the hypnotic, wholly unique sound presented by Gay Beast, who could resist one of the best records of the year?"
- Minneapolis Fucking Rocks
"Second Wave - it will bring great rewards upon many, many repeated listens. By the time you have the songs figured out, you will find that you've fallen in love with them. This ranks high as THE album most worth your hard-earned dollars."
"Think of it this way: If Sonic Youth and Le Tigre got together and wrote songs for a messed up version of At the Drive-In, you may have Second Wave. Dancing to what sounds like a broken record has never been more fun."
- The Needle Drop
"This is the kind of album that requires listening to marvel at the artistry on display."
- Citizen Dick
"You could say Gay Beast are a combination of influences from the past, sure, like No Wave, prog rock, noise-rock, math rock... but these labels are so ill-defined themselves that all you're really saying about Gay Beast is that they are challenging, original, and experimental. This album pushes musical composition into the future. And t's "catchy." I've listened to this record tons of times, and get something new out of it every time. Prepare to have your mind blown open."
- End Of Irony
"Gay Beast is the band that every experimental noise band tries to be."
- Verbicide Magazine
We've added a free (pre-vinyl master) MP3 of the B-Side "We Keep Our Victims Ready" for you to check out at the Audio Page HERE.

AIDS WOLF / SATANIZED "Split"
Distributed 7" Vinyl Single
ITEM!: In the Everything Else section of the SG shop, we've just added the brand-new split 7" from AIDS WOLF and SATANIZED. Limited to 500 marbled pink 7" single copies, this one features two unreleased AIDS WOLF tracks & one long SATANIZED mindbender. The single is housed in a Five-Color silk screened jacket, printed inside and out by Seripop.
Here's the scoop courtesy of Badmaster:
Aids Wolf (Montreal) and Satanized (Philadelphia) have joined forces to create a musical document of startling ugliness. The first of two Aids Wolf songs, "Tango Fatal" brings to mind a modern Harry Pussy, as three shotgun wounds to the gut are left to scamper around pitch black for an exit that does not exist. The second, "In And Under The Snow" is an instant classic that would have been at home on the Cities of Glass LP.
The Satanized side is a 24 hour shift into a steel mill turned mental institution. It captures everything short of the sweat that awe-inspires in a live setting.
This 7" is a not so gentle reminder that there are some sounds that just can't be unheard. To order, visit the Paypal Shop HERE.

Description: Skin Graft proudly re-presents the band's
debut CD "Turbo Mattress" in a new edition. Previously available as a
"weaponized, chinese throwing star-shaped CD", "Turbo Mattress" was quick
to sell, but also proved problematic for those on the receiving end - not only those who got the disc stuck in their forehead, but those determined to play the disc
in front feed CD players or CD changers. So for this new edition, Turbo Mattress has
been pressed on a transparent CD - maintaining the illusion of a chinese
throwing star with the added bonus of being playable on all CD players
